I love discovering new vacation spots to enjoy with my dog. However, I’ve realized not every destination is very dog-friendly. In fact, some places don’t allow dogs at all. The good news is I’ve done some research and determined the best dog-friendly vacation destinations on the East Coast, and I’m ready to share it with you! It’s time to hit the road with your four-legged friend!
Lake Placid, New York
I absolutely love exploring the great outdoors with my dog. Lake Placid in New York is nestled in the Adirondack Mountains and offers year-round activities, such as hiking, fishing, and skiing. I personally love to scope out the dog-friendly lakes and trails in the area and take my pooch on a long walk.
The Lake Placid Lodge is dog-friendly and offers beautiful views of the water and mountains. My dog certainly enjoys the yummy treats and soft beds! I also love exploring the best campgrounds in New York, so I can’t wait to rent a nearby cabin with my dog for our next adventure. On a brisk fall day, catch us strolling down the paved trail that surrounds Mirror Lake and admiring the breathtaking views.
Nantucket, Massachusetts
Getting to Nantucket is a bit of a trek, but the payoff is always worthwhile. My dog and I love to take the ferry. I’m pretty sure my pooch’s idea of heaven is floating across the
open water with wind in her face. Nantucket boasts a charming downtown, historic lighthouses, and several dog-friendly beaches.
I enjoy taking my pup to Steps Beach because it’s less crowded than other locations but offers stunning views. We can spend hours walking along the shoreline and playing fetch. After a long day in the sun, I recommend heading to Cisco Brewers to enjoy a cold drink and a nice meal alfresco. The brewery, distillery, and vineyard are open to dogs and often host live music performances!
Bar Harbor, Maine
Another ideal dog-friendly vacation destination on the East Coast is Bar Harbor, Maine. The city is surrounded by Acadia National Park, so there’s always somewhere to explore with my furry friend. We love walking along the trails and appreciating the picturesque views of the coastline.
During our time in Bar Harbor, I enjoy popping in and out of the shops in the downtown area. Many stores are dog-friendly, so it’s fun to spend an afternoon shopping with my best friend! Bar Harbor offers a free, pet-friendly shuttle, so it’s easy to navigate the area. Since my dog loves boats, I plan to book a dog-friendly boat tour and explore the water during our next visit. I love driving my dog to all these fun destinations, but it can take a toll on the interior of my car. To combat the mess, I keep pet hair out of my truck by brushing my dog thoroughly before the trip and using high-quality seat covers. We’re both so much happier on our road trips now!
