A Family Favorite Comes to Theaters

IIf you’re a parent like me, you know the joy of finding a show that entertains and teaches. For us, Gabby’s Dollhouse has been that show. Since it landed on Netflix in 2021, it quickly became a favorite in our home. My daughter fell in love with Gabby and her adorable cat crew. I’ll admit—I’ve caught myself humming along to the songs.

Now, DreamWorks Animation is giving us something bigger to look forward to: Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie. It arrives in theaters September 26, 2025. The excitement in our house is real. Dani is already talking about her movie snacks and practicing her sprinkle party dance moves.

And if your kids also loved The Bad Guys 2 earlier this summer, this is another family-friendly movie you’ll want to add to your must-watch list.

What’s the Story Behind Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie?

The movie takes Gabby (Laila Lockhart Kraner) outside the dollhouse for her biggest adventure yet. She sets out on a road trip with her Grandma Gigi (yes, Gloria Estefan!) to Cat Francisco. But things don’t go as planned. Gabby’s most prized possession—the dollhouse—ends up in the hands of Vera, an eccentric cat lady voiced by Kristen Wiig.

Gabby embarks on a mission to rescue her dollhouse, reunite the Gabby Cats, and learn new lessons about bravery and family.

As a mom, I love that this story doesn’t stay inside the dollhouse. Kids see Gabby navigate new places, make choices, and use creativity to figure things out. That’s something I always want to encourage at home.

The Star-Studded Cast Parents Will Appreciate

While kids will be thrilled to see their favorite characters—Pandy Paws, CatRat, Cakey, DJ Catnip, Baby Box, and MerCat—back in action, parents will probably do a double-take at the cast list.

Here’s who’s lending their voices:

For me, this is one of those rare kids’ movies where I’m just as excited as my daughter. I mean, Kristen Wiig as a cat lady? That alone is worth the price of a ticket!

Why Families (Including Ours!) Are Excited

There are so many reasons to be excited. First, it’s rated G, which means it’s perfect for even the youngest kids. No guessing games or fast-forwarding—just a safe, family-friendly experience.

Second, it’s rooted in positive messages: growth mindset, teamwork, flexible thinking, and learning from mistakes. In our house, I’ve even heard my little one repeat lessons picked up from Gabby. The other day, after spilling juice, I heard, “It’s okay, we can fix it together—just like Gabby!” Moments like that make me love the series even more.

And let’s not forget the nostalgia factor for parents. Watching your child light up over characters they adore—it’s just special. If you’re looking for more family-friendly fun, you can also check out my post on the Smurfs digital release for a cozy movie night at home.

Release Date and Movie Night Plans

So, when can you join the sprinkle party? Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie will be in theaters on September 26, 2025.

We’re already planning to make it a full family outing. Popcorn, maybe some sprinkles-themed cupcakes afterward (because why not?), and then coming home to play with Dani’s Gabby’s Dollhouse toy set to keep the magic alive. If you’re like us, you might even want to plan a sprinkle-inspired movie night at home after—pajamas, dance party, and maybe a craft or two.

Watch the Trailer Together

The official trailer is already out, and trust me, once your kids see it, they’ll want to hit replay about a hundred times. You can watch it here ➡️

From Netflix Hit to Global Phenomenon

It’s incredible to see how far Gabby’s Dollhouse has come since its Netflix debut. By 2024, it had become one of the top 10 streaming shows in 63 countries, and by 2025, it reached 100 episodes. That’s a lot of sprinkle parties!

Beyond the series, Gabby has inspired toys, books, music, live events, and even theme park experiences. In fact, I remember walking through Target not too long ago and spotting an entire aisle of Gabby’s Dollhouse toys—it’s that popular.

The fact that this preschool brand is now expanding into a feature film just proves how much kids (and parents) love it.

Our Final Sprinkle

For families like ours, this movie isn’t just another release date. It’s a chance to share something magical together. We’ll watch favorite characters on the big screen, laugh at the jokes, and maybe learn something along the way.

So, whether your kids have been watching since season one or you’re just discovering Gabby and her cats, this movie is one you won’t want to miss. Mark your calendars for September 26th, grab some sprinkles, and get ready for a meow-mazing family adventure.

And when the kids go to bed after movie night, don’t forget to save something for yourself—I recently shared my review of White Lotus Season 3 if you’re looking for a show just for parents.

We’ll be there opening weekend—will you?
