As you plan your holiday events and invite family and friends, consider how you can also support your local community. Spreading festive cheer is one thing my family and I love to do, and it lets me teach my children more about the world around them. Give back this holiday season by learning ways to make a charitable donation to your local and national organizations.
Adopt a Family in Need
Know where exactly your donations are going by adopting a family for the holidays. I especially appreciate organizations like the Salvation Army and local community centers that often run programs where you can provide gifts, groceries, and essentials to a family facing financial hardship. Brighten the holidays for a less fortunate family by supplying gifts for challenging times.
Donate Food to a Local Shelter
For those colder months, a warm meal could be the perfect gift to give to struggling families. Stock your local food drives with nonperishable food items or beverages. Your contributions feed families nourishing meals that they can enjoy during the holiday season.
Support a Toy Drive
Become your neighborhood Santa for children who are looking for new puzzles, action figures, playhouses, and more. I often ask my children what they want for the holidays to gauge what kind of toys I can donate to my community. Donate new, unwrapped toys to local toy drives, like Toys for Tots, to bring immense joy to children in need. Toys can be expensive, though, so look into the benefits of buying wholesale toys in bulk for these donations to get a better deal and make even more kids happy.

Contribute to a Charity of Your Choice
Another of the easiest ways to make a charitable donation this holiday season is by funding nonprofit organizations. Choose organizations that support something you care about, whether that’s cancer research, animal shelters, environmental conservation, or something else. These organizations can use your contributions to continue spreading their ethical support and messages.
Volunteer Your Time
Monetary donations aren’t the only way you can contribute to your community. Volunteering your time is a good way to support important causes and learn the stories of people who need extra support.
Volunteer at local soup kitchens, nursing homes, or community centers to serve food and wrap gifts. Also, consider involving your family in this activity. Sharing these moments with my family creates heartwarming memories and opportunities to teach life lessons to my kids.
Create Care Packages for the Homeless
The changing season impacts individuals without reliable shelter. You can help by assembling care packages with coats, socks, gloves, hats, toiletries, and snacks. Then, distribute these packages to houseless individuals in your area. This act of kindness protects them from harsh weather and keeps them warmer and more comfortable for the holidays.
Look after others this holiday season by donating your time, resources, and energy to your local communities. Find out what kind of programs and donation drives your neighborhood is hosting and contribute in ways you can.
