While right now is not typically the ideal time to get outside because of the cold weather, prepping your yard starts now. If you want to enjoy your yard this winter, or this upcoming spring, put in the work now! If you need help figuring out what to do, to make your yard enjoyable for yourself, your family, and your guests, here are a few tips for maintaining a great backyard to enjoy:
Add Outdoor Lights
If you want landscaping that looks great and feels relaxing, I would highly recommend adding in outdoor lights. This is easy to do but takes a little skill. In fact, you probably shouldn’t focus on lighting up your pathways and other landscape features, like your trees, first. In fact, you should begin with the primary focus of your outdoor lighting. The most prized part of your property – your house. With that being said, you should definitely put your attention on lighting your house using the right type of outdoor light fixtures that help illuminate everything, enhancing your home, while also helping with safety and security at night. If you add in outdoor landscaping lights correctly, your landscaping will feel much more inviting and secure.
Hire a Landscaping Company
The best way to maintain your yard, without the work? Hire a landscaping company, such as Sabba’s Landscaping, Lawn, Pavers, and Fencing. They are a Monmouth County landscaping company that serves the NJ area, with pride. Sabba’s is a well-qualified company that honors itself on customer service, quality, and reliability allowing their customers to feel more at ease. They provide professional lawn & landscaping maintenance and care at reasonable prices for both residential and commercial customers. They say, “our mission is to serve our clients to the best of our ability; by keeping up to date with the newest equipment, designs, and technology. We strive for our customers to receive the best care guaranteed!” If you want a great yard, without the work, definitely find a landscaping company to manage it all for you.
Take Care of Pests
If you have a great backyard, you probably want to spend a good amount of time out there, enjoying it, but if you have pests, that could deter you from actually using your space. To take care of the pests, use a non-toxic spray, such as Wondercide. This stuff is really cool – it’s totally non-toxic, safe for kids, safe for animals, and there’s no downtime. You can spray with your kids or pets outside and immediately start playing. This is because it’s created with essential oils, instead of harmful, traditional pesticides.
The good thing about it? Wondercide truly works. I’m sure there are a ton of other companies that make similar products that are non-toxic, so do your research, but I just know about Wondercide. However, if you find that the pests persist despite your best efforts, don’t be afraid to reach out to a reputable pest control company like Aptive Environmental Group GA for professional assistance. Take care of those critters in your yard – if you can avoid them and enjoy your yard more, why not do it?
Consider an Edible Landscape
An edible landscape has recently become a new trend, but I think it’s so cool, practical, and also beautiful! It is also a great way to teach kids about how food is grown and why it’s important to grow food, whenever you can. Having an edible landscape is a great idea. Especially if you choose plants (such as a pineapple guava bush) that looks like “normal” landscaping, while also producing fruit/vegetables for your family.
Use Black Mulch in Flower Beds
A great tip I’ve learned in the past? Use black mulch in flower beds instead of brown mulch, or grass. This will help make your beds (and flowers) pop and it will look so, so great! Try it this upcoming spring: you’ll thank me!
Plant Wildflowers
Planting wildflowers is always a great idea, but when you have a garden or an edible landscape, it’s an even better idea, because it will help attract local pollinators to your yard and garden, which will help you produce more fruits/vegetables, and keep the local pollinators alive and happy.
Clean up Leaves
One thing you could be doing right now if you don’t have a landscaper? Start cleaning up leaves! If you have leaves sitting in your yard, it will create mud, limit grass growth in the spring, and it will hold in pests – even snakes. Rake up those leaves. It’s a pain, but it will definitely help you maintain your yard!
There are just a few tips for maintaining a great backyard. Let me know if you have any additional tips that I can share with everyone!
