I can’t even believe we are starting Spring and that Summer is just around the corner. This year definitely looks a little brighter so our family will most definitely hit the road more often now, after spending 2 years at home. Continue reading more about our first Great Road Trip Adventure To Finger Lakes Region NY Pre-pandemic.
During this Spring break, I got a chance to drive around in the new 2022 Traverse AWD High Country! When I was invited to try and drive this vehicle it was a pleasant surprise as we are looking to change our minivan for an SUV (Well mostly me, my husband is still reluctant to change his van; hopefully this trip will change his mind, fingers cross)
Road Trip Adventure To Finger Lakes, NY
Time to Road Trip to Watkins Glen!
Driving from New York City to the Finger Lakes region took us 4hrs and 30 mins in normal traffic. That is about 252 mi (406 km).
Our decision to visit the Finger Lakes Region was basically for their beautiful lakes and falls that are well known in the area.
The Eleven finger-shaped lakes cross the heart of New York in this region of refreshing waterfalls, gorgeous gorges, sun-kissed vineyards, and lush forests. Fantastic state parks like Buttermilk Falls, Watkins Glen, and Letchworth are perfect for activities like swimming, hiking, biking, and camping.
Driving The New 2022 Traverse AWD High Country
The new 2022 Traverse includes Chevy Safety Assist,1 a comprehensive suite of driver assistance features that include automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, forward collision alert, IntelliBeam®, and following distance indicator. We were definitely safe on the road.
Got to love the 8-inch diagonal Driver Information Center that is standard on Premier and High Country vehicles. The screen is bright and clear to the max. The GPS is easy to use and the integrated apps make it feel like we are using your cellphones. oh, and the USB ports in every row are definitely a gain-changer.
Visiting The Watkins Glen State Park
This was our first time visiting the area and we were pretty excited about what was to come. But to our luck, the weather took a turn and the entire weekend was wet, icy, and cold. And due to these conditions, most of the trails were close to the public… It was unexpected but we still enjoyed our time there.
There is a $10 parking fee that was waived this time since only the North and South Rim trails were open.
The views and waterfalls that we were able to see were amazing. The entire area brings you to a stay of calm and relaxation. We were able to hike the Rim trails that overlook the gorge. These trails were amazing. We can’t wait to come back and hike the major trails (closed during our visit)
Another Must-Visit Place
Taughannock Falls plunges 215 feet past rocky cliffs that tower nearly 400 feet above the gorge. Gorge and rim trails offer spectacular views from above and below the falls.
Getting here was almost a 20-25 mins drive from Watkins Glen. Since we already knew we wouldn’t be able to do the trails due to the rain, we head straight to the Taughannock Falls Overlook. This is a free stop and you will definitely don’t want to miss it if you are in the area.
The Overlook stop view has plenty of free parking but if you like to enter the State Park and hike the trails; just like in the Watkins Glen State Park there is a fee of $10 for parking.
Bring Your Own Food
Food stands or snack machines are limited in the park. It will be a great idea to bring your own food. You can find plenty of great local shops and fast-food restaurants you can choose from on Main Street. Take it to-go and enjoy it in the park.
Making Plans For Summer
Watkins Glen NY Will Be a Great Idea. There are lots of things to do in the Finger Lakes Region now that the temperature is warming up. We plan to visit again to continue exploring what we missed, is totally worth the drive.
This is exactly what our family needs a nice weekend road-trip looks like a fun time
