Our Weekend Before Christmas: Last-Minute Shopping Adventures

Our Weekend Before Christmas: Last-Minute Shopping Adventures post thumbnail image

This post has nothing to do with a Christmas story—this is simply our weekend before Christmas! And if I’m being completely honest… my husband and I are total procrastinators. Every year we say we’ll plan ahead. The conversation about gifts starts around the middle of the year, and somehow we still end up here—one week before Christmas—without a single clue what to get the kids. 😅

But even with the chaos, I truly love this time of year. The lights on the streets, the decorations on the houses, the holiday movies playing nonstop… it all fills me with so much Christmas spirit. For us, it’s also the moment when we sneak in a little break from the kids, the house, and the everyday craziness of work and school.

So, as usual, after months of “hard thinking” (let’s pretend!), we finally decided it was time to start searching for the “perfect Christmas gifts” for our kids.

 The Joys of Last-Minute Shopping

By this point in the season, we usually find great deals—but also very long lines everywhere we go. Thankfully, we’re definitely not the only last-minute shoppers out there. Toy stores, electronics stores, department stores, video game shops… everything is packed with people trying to find the best gifts for their loved ones.

We normally do our shopping at night. During the day, we spend time with the kids, and around 6 p.m. we drop them off with my parents before heading back out into the holiday madness.

And honestly…

GOD BLESS ALL GRANDPARENTS FOR HELPING OUT AND LOVING THEIR GRANDCHILDREN!
We could not survive this season without them.

A Little Holiday Bonding

I don’t love standing in lines—and it’s one of the reasons I barely go shopping for myself. But standing there with my husband, talking and laughing, reminds me of the early days of our relationship almost 14 years ago. Somehow, even the chaos becomes a sweet little moment for just the two of us.

How About You?

Are you like us—waiting until the very last minute?
Or are you the organized one who plans ahead and is done by November?

Either way, thank you for reading, and Happy Holidays to you and your family! 🎄✨

  1. I hate crowded shops so it’s online for me! I also am like you and leave things like our special Christmas food to the last minute. Thanks for sharing with #overthemoon

  2. I’m a huge fan of online shopping so the only thing we had to go to the store for was food and some wrapping paper. Thanks for sharing your story at the Over the Moon Link Party. Merry Christmas!
