Baby skin is soft, delicate, and sensitive. As a mom, it can be hard learning what products to use and how to establish an effective skincare routine for your little one. I’m here to help! Read on to learn some easy ways to protect and nourish your baby’s skin.
Moisturize!
First up on my list is moisturizing because it’s one of the easiest and most important ways to care for all skin, including your baby’s. Moisturizers supply a protective barrier that locks in hydration for less cracking, itching, and dryness. That’s why moisturizers are one of the best products to enjoy this winter, including for your child. Choose gentle, hypoallergenic creams or lotions and apply them immediately after baths while your baby’s skin is still damp.
Frequently Change Diapers
Diaper rash is a skin problem that results from prolonged exposure to wetness and irritation from soiled diapers. To prevent it, change diapers frequently and buy highly absorbent ones. Each time you change your baby, clean their bottom gently with water or alcohol-free wipes, then allow their skin to air dry before securing a fresh diaper.

Buy Soothing Fabrics
When it comes to clothing and bedding, material choice matters greatly for your baby’s sensitive skin. Dressing your baby in breathable, soft fabrics helps regulate their body temperature and reduces the risk of heat rashes, keeping them cozy and content. Plus, it lowers the risk of allergic reactions and itchiness.
Keep in mind that the most common fabrics for baby clothes, such as cotton, aren’t always the best. For example, viscose bamboo is better than cotton; its naturally soft texture and moisture-wicking ability fight against skin discomfort better than cotton.
Apply Sunscreen
Sunscreen is an essential skincare product for all people, young and old. Your baby’s first line of defense against the sun should be their clothing. However, for those parts of their body that aren’t covered, choose a natural sunscreen formulated specifically for babies and apply it before any time in the sun.
However, keep in mind that the FDA recommends against ample sun exposure and sunscreen usage for children younger than six months.
Don’t Let Them Soak
We love bath time, but lots of soaking can strip your baby’s skin of natural oils, making it dry and uncomfortable. Keep baths brief and use lukewarm water for optimum comfort. After baths, pat your baby’s skin dry with a soft towel, then apply that beloved moisturizer to lock in hydration.
Now that you know these easy ways to protect and nourish your baby’s skin, you can protect them from care-related rashes and discomfort. There’s nothing more heartwarming than knowing your baby feels comfortable, warm, and protected in your trusted hands.
