If there’s one thing I’ve learned after countless family outings, it’s this: a well-packed bag can make or break your day at the amusement park. I’ve had smooth-sailing trips and also those “oops-I-forgot-wipes” kind of days 😅. So today, I’m sharing my personal checklist of what to pack for an amusement park day with kids—mom-tested and approved!
Whether it’s your first visit or you’re a seasoned park-goer, this list will help you stay prepared, comfortable, and focused on what matters most—making memories with your little ones.
1. Comfy Clothes and Shoes Are a Must
Dress your kiddos (and yourself!) in light, breathable clothes that are perfect for walking, playing, and tackling those splashy rides. I always go with layers—mornings can be cool, and afternoons get hot fast. And shoes? Comfy sneakers are the way to go—no new shoes unless you want a chorus of “my feet hurt!” before lunchtime.

2. Sun Protection—Don’t Skip This!
Trust me, sunburn is not the souvenir you want to bring home. I never leave without packing:
- SPF 50+ sunscreen (spray for quick reapply is a lifesaver)
- Hats for everyone
- Sunglasses
- A small fan or cooling towel on hot days

I pack each child a refillable water bottle (most parks have refill stations!), and I stash snacks like granola bars, applesauce pouches, crackers, or trail mix. It keeps hunger tantrums at bay, and you’ll save a good amount of $$ by skipping those overpriced snack booths.

4. Rainy Day Backups and Outfit Changes
Weather can be… unpredictable (been there!). I always throw in:

- A travel umbrella
- Extra clothes for the kids (sometimes even for me!)
- A plastic bag or two for wet or dirty clothes

5. Mini First-Aid & Hygiene Kit

- Antiseptic wipes

And if your kids have allergies or meds they need, double-check you’ve packed those!
6. Entertainment for Downtime
Lines and waits are inevitable, so I toss in:
- A mini coloring book or notepad
- A small toy or fidget
- Headphones if we bring a tablet
7. Safety First—Just in Case
One thing I always do now is make sure my kids have an ID bracelet or card with my number on it. We also go over a safety plan and agree on a meet-up spot, just in case we get separated.
8. The Right Bag Makes All the Difference
I use a comfortable backpack with multiple pockets so I can stay organized. It frees up my hands (so I can hold churros or tiny hands 😊). If you have a toddler with you, the stroller also doubles as our “stuff carrier.”
